Request Summary: Nursing agency usage
Request Category: Companies
Question Number 1: (a) Who is the head of procurement at this trust and who is responsible for approving Nursing agency usage? (b) Secondly, who is the temporary / flexible staffing lead responsible for the management of this service?
Answer To Question 1: (a) Kelly Willoughby (b) Temporary Staffing Manager
Question Number 2: Please can you provide the contact number and email address in relation to both question 1 (a) and (b)
Answer To Question 2: (a) sft.procurement@nhs.net (b) sft.temporarystaffing@nhs.net
Question Number 3: Have you used Off-framework nursing agency staff in the last 3 months at this trust?
Answer To Question 3: Yes
Question Number 4: How much was your Off-Framework agency spend for each of the following staff groups between August 2022 – October 2022 (a) RGN’s (b) Registered Midwives (c) RMN (d) Specialist RN (ITU) (e) Specialist RN (A&E)
Answer To Question 4: Total off framework spend on all nursing staff in the 3 month period was £946k. The Trust doesn't hold details of the breakdown of these across the groups requested as all agency staff, both on and off framework is recorded against one code.
Question Number 5: Following the same breakdown of staff groups in Question 3, how many Off-framework shifts have been unfilled between August 2022 – October 2022 (a) RGN’s (b) Registered Midwives (c) RMN (d) Specialist RN (ITU) (e) Specialist RN (A&E)
Answer To Question 5: The trust plans all shifts to be filled through Substantive and bank staff. When these shifts are unable to be filled the Trust utilises its compliant on framework pool of suppliers. The Trust works hard to ensure shifts are filled by these on framework, compliant contracted agencies. In instances were short notice vacancies in shift patterns are identified (due to last minute sickness for example) Off Framework Agency staff are used to meet safe staffing levels within the Hospital. These shifts are of a last minute nature, and approved in order to safeguard patient need. Consequently, it is not possible to answer the question as we do not plan Off-framework shifts, and therefore cannot identify a number that have not been filled. Therefore there are no routine Off-Frameworks shifts for the Trust.
